Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers

The Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers was formed with the enactment of Public Act 54 of 2006. The practice of athletic training as defined in the Public Health Code means the treatment of an individual for risk management and injury prevention, the clinical evaluation and assessment of an individual for an injury or illness, the immediate care and treatment of an individual for an injury or illness, and the rehabilitation and reconditioning of an individual's injury or illness. The Public Health Code mandates certain responsibilities and duties for a health professional licensing board. Underlying all duties is the responsibility of the board to promote and protect the public's health, safety, and welfare. This responsibility is implemented by the Board by ascertaining minimal entry level competency of health practitioners and verifying continuing education during licensure. The Board also has the obligation to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public's health, safety, and welfare. The Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers consists of 11 voting members: 6 athletic trainers, 2 physicians and 3 public members.
